NEW-LOOK KHIR TOYO

The Star, 5th February, under its Other News & Views column reported “Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Khir Toyo’s looks caught the media’s attention again, when Utusan Malaysia reported on his denial that he underwent facial surgery or Botox injections. Dr Mohd Khir was speaking…… on Sunday, when he said his youthful looks were mainly due to his diet of tempe or fried soyabeans, a Javanese delicacy.”

I have met Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo close up many, many times before. When I first saw his picture with the new looks I couldn’t tell it was him. There was admittedly a faint resemblance, but the same Dr Khir Toyo? Impossible – unless he did what some had done. And so after much staring at the new looks and some hard recall of the earlier looks I had simply assumed, probably like many others, that the Datuk Seri had felt he needed the new looks, and duly availed himself of the wonder of facial surgery or Botox injection!

And yet he had denied either of these. While I do not think this subject deserves discussions, I do want to say that attributing his new looks to tempe diet seems preposterous beyond belief. But then we hear that those who will be standing at the next election (and I presume he will) must be honest and capable leaders. So He could not be telling an untruth could he? Well, unless of course that’s only for the new upcoming term onwards – or that he is not planning to run…

Anyway I am so glad I will not be voting in his constituency. I cannot imagine what to believe. How can I really know the truth – start eating tempe and see what happens? That might take forever (I will most likely die first) although it seemed to work instantly for him. And yet the truth is critical in determining if he is worthy of my vote, or of anyone’s vote for that matter. If he could lie blatantly over such a “super-facial” issue imagine what can happen!

This is not therefore about the new looks but more about whether Khir Toyo lied blatantly or if he had actuallly discovered a dietry miracle. Well, enough said – after all I’m not in his constituency and shouldn’t really worry if I am being directly lied to despite the fresh promise.

There were ppl started talkng about his appearance since Nov 06. I would agree that a good/right diet & balance life-style would improve one's look/appearance. It works from inner. To a certain extend, I am a believer of bird-nest and yes, it does help in improving one's health in particular the skin & immume system. But this is a long term investment and comes with high maintenance cost. May be I should try tempe now..

My God, there must be an acute shortage of tempe now. Well, at least the tempe sellers will be able to benefit from this.

Now we know why so many Javanese are wizened and hollow-cheeked - they have not been taking tempe. But then I thought 99plus% of Javanese take the stuff, do they not? Now I'm all so confused and don't even know what to believe - just like my exact same problem with Khir Toyo.

Maybe he or his son in law owns a tempe factory?

Technically speaking, I cant say he is lying...

Reasons:
The question posted was only referring to SURGICAL & Botox.

Aside from tempe-diet, he may have gone for other non-surgical treatments (eg IPL, Vit C jab, laser treatment, miracle cream, or even susuk)
Since the reporter didnt ask him any thing about these other treatments, hence the MB shall have the liberty of not disclosing. Non disclosure doesnt amount to lying...

Also, assuming that he took some non-surgical treatments & tempe-diet, but he strongly & sincerely believes that it is the diet that produces the good results and not others, then it is not wrong for him to say it is the diet that helps.

Hence, technically speaking, the MB is still telling what he believes is true... That is still his honest opinion..

...a little faith in him? :)

Favourite Uncle,

Look: it's sad but true; not everyone is blessed with our wonderful genes. Why, just this morning on our way into work, whilst Mak and I were buying our breakfast, the sweet cashier thought Mak was my sister. And I myself am constantly asked for i.d at pubs and bars. (I'm 28 next month!)

So, may I advise Mr T to change his diet to petai, ikan masin, tempoyak, pucok paku and bunga kantan? It works a treat for us Kemahangians. And it looks natural, too. :-)

I'm glad at least one person is still ready to give him the benefit of the doubt... "that, technically speaking, he may still believe he is telling the truth...that it is still his honest opinion..."

Seer Foon, to an extent, I'm like you too, ready to even have more than "a little faith in him...". That's why I'm so glad I'm not voting in his constituency and not have to further agonise over this.

As you said, he might sincerely believe he is not. But then he said two things - what he didn't do, and what he did do. Both must be correct - "no knife, no botox, but 100% due to tempe". Even if we were to go with your other possibilities it would make him either stupid but sincere, or "technically smart" but substantively untruthful. We surely deserve neither for our Wakil Rakyat.

Rather reminds me of the Wakil Rakyat who built a "palace" on alienated land among squatters, and "honestly thought" he had done nothing wrong; or the minister caught on video doing things he should not not have been doing claiming that his misfortune was brought about by his "working too hard for his constituency and doing his job too well"!

Again, I can only say I'm glad I don't have to vote in Khir Toyo's constituency. I hope I will not have the same dillema with the candidates in the constituency I'm voting ...!

And favourite niece - why do you think Mak Ngah keep sending you all that petai?

Haha.. It's just a "game of words"...

It's really annoying & disappointing to hear ridiculous claims / blames from the wrong-doer.

Annoying because they blame every1 & anything under the sky except themselves. Disappointing becoz they are not smart in creating a more believe-able/convincing excuses (though they shouldnt)...
With their "blaming-attitude" + "lack of intellectual acuity" make them "stupid cowards" (excuse me for lack of better words)...

Thank goodness voting is not mandatory yet... haha...

slap him in the face, if he doesnt roll round in pain, then he had work done, as Botox has a numbing effect...

but i'm willing to bet he has done more than just botox... come on...

excessive amounts of money will change anyone.... in more ways than one.

I just cannot understand why many of our leaders do not pay as much attention to the `concept-of-critical-strategic-implications' of some of the things they say (and/or do). Like the point about what you wrote: one implication of which as I see it, is about LYING! And I'm sure many of us too can recall many more incidents where our leaders LIED. True, there must have been occasions when (according to them) it wasn't the appropriate time yet for the subject matter to be revealed at the time they have to say something about it but the words to be used; how they were to be said - I'm positive they have many more other words that they could use. The point I'm making is that leaders, to me, LEADERS should NOT LIE! NEVER! They should be able to-think-on-their-feet to deal with the situations/questionings confronting them, but their response should NEVER TO RESORT TO LYING!

But paradin, I'm afraid, I am not comfortable reading the way I FEEL Khir Toyo was `personally attacked'. I know we have different styles of doing things; of expressing ourselves. Perhaps, another approach, probably may be more effective even, could be for you to write to him personally and confidentially about all the things that you wrote; the way you wrote it.

Hope to share more of the serious concerns that you've expressed most beautifully, though.

As promised, I have been passing your blogspot to many others to date, including to a seminar of more than 100 participants (I believe of thinking people). I'm confiedent some would be curious enough to access it. And Boy! How'll they'll benefit, God Willing.

Nickizar - appreciate your comments greatly. I think you are absolutely right in everything you said. If anything you sounded more demanding in your expectation of our leaders which I believe sohould be so.

As for their being prone to saying things without really "engaging gear" first, I think there are two reasons: firstly some of them are really incapable of on-the-spot sound analysis; and secondly some who are just cannot be too bothered because of the "arrogance and disrespect" that has crept into their culture - that everything they say and do is beyond criticisms. This is exactly the kind of traits caused by what I was talking about in my earlier postings "Leading Without Leadership", "Our Crippling Hypocracy" and one or two others indirectly.

as for the "personal attack" I just don't know how to discuss the case without specifics - and that will always make it personal. I can only make sure what is said is all correct - all facts, logic and conjectures presented as such ... which was what I thought I did.

Thanks again.
